Amajuba Berries is a community project on a 100ha portion of Belfast which belongs to Charlestown Community Trust, directly opposite the village of Charlestown on the N11, approximately 10km South from Volksrust.(see directions)
THE AMAJUBA BERRIES PROJECT
The Amajuba Berries project is one of the largest berry projects in South Africa started in 2009 and when completed, will be one of the largest raspberry farms in the Southern hemisphere.

The project forms part of the land restitution program in Charlestown and is being funded by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the National Empowerment Fund (NEF).

The project plan will proceed in two phases:
    PROJECT PHASE 1
  • Phase one, which was completed in 2009, consisted of setting up the infrastructure and the planting of 20 hectares with a number of varieties of raspberry.
  • The raspberries are of export quality and are in high demand both locally and in the export markets.
    PROJECT PHASE 2
  • Phase 2 will continue the development and planting of a further 20 hectares which it is planned to be complete in 2012.
  • Ultimately, a total 60 hectares of raspberries will be planted and harvested for the local and overseas markets.
